Selection Procedure

  • Select the appropriate fastener size using this performance table:
    Size AN 7 5 2
    Size DFCI 6 5 35
    Locking Torque - Minimum (in-lb) 7.5 5.0 3.5
    Locking Torque - Maximum (in-lb) 18 12 8
    Initial Tension Minimum (lb) 50 35 15
    Tension & Shear - Rated (lb) 700 500 200
    Tension & Shear - Plus 50% (lb) 1050 750 300
    Locking Stop Strength (in-lb) 80 60 30
    Endurance (Cycles) 40,000 25,000 5,000
  • Select a stud head style: Oval (2xx1), Flush (2xx6), or Oval Wing (2xx1-W)
  • Select a stud retainer: There are 4 types of retainers available in the SU-2300 Line:
Half Grommet
(127H)
Solid. Retains when flattened.
Snap Ring
(1219-R)
Split ring installs fast and takes little space.
Retaining Spring
(1219-24)
Holds the stud in the locking position for alignment with the receptacle.
Full Grommets
(1271, 1276)
Sizes 5 and 6 Prevents panel hole wear, protects the panel finish, and reduces stud play.
  • Determine the total thickness of the material to be fastened: Assuming the stud and receptacle are in a locked position, determine the distance between the level of the stud head contact with the top of the panel in which it is retained (on a flush head, this will be the top of the head), and the level of receptacle contact with the underside of the material on which it is mounted. Usually this distance is simply the combined thickness of the stud panel and receptacle support material, but gaskets or standoffs between the panel and support can also add space. Material between the stud head and the top of the panel, such as a full grommet, must also be counted, as must paint thickness applied to every intervening surface. Do not count the stud retainer thickness on the panel underside which enters the support hole.
  • Determine the correct stud length for the total thickness of material to be fastened, using the table on the stud page (Size 35, Size 5, Size 6).
  • Choose either a rigid or a floating receptacle. SU-2300 Line receptacles are enclosed to protect the parts, prevent the loss of plating chips and to provide a smooth stud entry. Type "2xx0-18" is used for rigid mounting and type "2xx0-18F" provides a floating feature to compensate for misalignment.
